Gaura Nepali

Gaura is a citizen of The Southeastern District of Sarlahi but was born in Western Arghakhanchi District. She is the Co-founder of Center for Dalit Women Nepal (CDWN), of the Dalit NGO Consortium?, and of the Inter-party Dalit Women’s Network.

As a well-known activist in the Dalit movement Gaura has participated in major actions since 2001. She has honed her leadership skills during 14 years as Vice President of Association for Dalit Women’s Advancement of Nepal (ADWAN), where she specialized in designing and delivering human rights awareness workshop in rural Gorkha, Arghakhanchi, Baglung and Chitwan Districts.

Her experience and network includes the Jagaran Media Center where she has been treasurer since 2014, her membership of Women Human Rights Defenders (since 2008), and the UN Women’s Civil society Advisory Group (CSAG) (since 2016). She participated in the Collective Campaign for the Elimination of Caste-based Discrimination and Untouchability all over rural Nepal.

She represented Nepal’s Dalit women at the UN Commission on the Status of Women in New York  2017, and received the Dr. Ambedkar Award in 2013 in India. Gaura has studied social science in Butwal and at Tribhuvan University. Her training and workshop participation in Nepal and Bangladesh, includes gender- and caste mainstreaming, human rights, violence prevention and conflict resolution.
